Breeding Season 2008/9
09/24/08 at 11:41:11

Good news folks! Smiley

Reports of the first green tree frog spawning are filtering in from Northern Australia!

It appears the green tree frogs don't take any notice of the fact that the official wet season doesn't actually start until the 1st October  Shocked

Although scattered, there have been decent rain falls with GTF activity recorded.

This is about a month earlier than last year!

Cheers Cool

Hi

I have 3 males and 1 female. In the last couple of weeks I have moved them from their dry tank to their rain chaimber.

The tank has about 14-15 cm's of water at about 29/30 degrees. We pump the water for a couple of hours every evening, which starts the males off. They croak constantly for several hours. The males jump on any other frog that passes them. A couple of times they have held the female in what appears to be amplexus and held this position for 12 plus hours.

The female is full of eggs, but won't lay. Most nights, she won't even get involved in the action and just hides in the corners. If a male comes close, she jumps to the other sides.

Probably just impatient, but any suggestions on how to get her to lay.

Thanks

Warren

You must be doing something right to get the males going......

Females - Well! They're quite choosy and moody when it comes to allowing a male to spawn with her. Roll Eyes

Don't give up.   undecided

She may take a while to make up her mind which male and when!

Hi,

i am looking for a Litoria caerulea breeder (preferred country: Australia) who is willing to help me!  i don't have any experience in keeping & breeding frogs.  Being a behavioural biologist, i do research on the mate choice of females during breeding season.  So what i need is somebody who has some frogs which are ready to mate or people who know some 'Litoria-rich' ponds.  The frogs won't be harmed in any way; the project is about testing the attractivity of several pheromone solutions: What pheromone induces the most attraction of females?
(You will be paid for your help)

Thank you so so so much!!

Have a male that never quite got into the act this season first timer i think was 38 grams up to 51-53 now.  Just wondering is there a chance hes a late bloomer, and can i possibly get him to mate before end of season?  Or is it already pretty much over?

Whether or not your male will perform depends on whether he  (and she) have been cycled through a full season AND the right conditions are present.

If not then cycle for next year and try agaiin. If yes then perhaps playing some males croaking will get him competative Huh
